Eclipsing Lightning

Knights of the Dark Age! Knights of the Dark Age! I have a whole host of plans for KotDA and I rarely ever make any material for it. Here is a scene from a pivotal point in the development of the world. The Eclipses, the heretical superpowered Heroes of the Nightbringers have descended upon the Shining Palace at the Center of the world, the seat of the Highest Deities of Theia. The Eclipses, bolstered by their powers as Accursed Heroes of incredible skill and power seek to sever the souls of the gods themselves and bring an end to the Shining Age of Giants and Dragons.

One such Eclipse is Stral, third among his peers in rank and power after Geseus and Warll, and Master of the great halberd and Slayer of the Ancient Giants. He is pictured here delivering a killing blow - with some flair - to a member of the pantheon, a god of thunder and lightning who has woefully underestimated the true strength of one who has exceeded the capabilities and depth of strength of the beings imbued fully with the Power of Potential.

The Storm God attempts, with its last burst of energy, to strike down the Heretical warrior in a torrent of lightning bolts, striking with a kind of beyond-deadly force befitting the strength of true and fearsome enemies of the gods.

This was a simple composition where I wanted to try and draw lightning moving in very unnatural way. Also, I was having concerns about the designs of the Eclipses, and I eventually realized that the gods in this world were not well-defined at all, either design-wise or functionally, a problem I eventually addressed one day.

I was hoping to capture Stral performing a jump+rotation that would end in the beheading of this being while cleverly dodging some bolts of lightning, but I hadn't captured the twist of his body and a strong sense of motion. I also didn't get a good sense of his weapon being used with intent and momentum. The simplicity of the scene overall is good do place action in, but the action is itself rather muddy.
