Punk Magic

Nothing too involved here. My well of ideas was running dry and I couldn't fit anything in my mind that felt cool enough to spend time on, so I asked my good friend Bianca to storm up a brainwave for me.

She replied "Punk Magic"

The rest fell together in rather simplistic and mechanical fashion. Looking back at this one I have no strong sensations about the piece. I tried to make a joke out of it, with the Punk Shaman-looking character shooting a ray of light at some yuppie with enough raw Casbah-rocking force and energy to knock his stupid briefcase out of his overly principled hands. I set it on a catwalk over a concert performed by a punky homage to The Sex Pistols, mostly because whenever I think of cool 80's-ass punk-related stuff, I keep landing on scenes that should be in Highlander movies...

I made this back in November 2015, so my memory is failing like the post-dream mindscape of an early morning, but I do think my friend requested that the subject be androgynous and possibly involving a 'Punk Staff'

This one looks to be quite rushed, despite my generally low skill ceiling at this point in time, so it takes some squinting to see that a ray of light is being ejected from the punkiest of badass gauntlets, and the background elements are woefully underdeveloped. What I learned from this piece is that I can see what I'm willing to sacrifice when I try to rush a thing that I'm barely invested in. The fact that I haphazardly slapped the words "The Fuck Handguns" in there like a terribly blunt sledge to the groin is, in fact, my favorite part of this image and that reveals my disengaged attitude to it. All the trying that I attempted came at the end, perhaps when I became more invested in exercising the craft, something that tends to take place when I build up enough emotional RPM to want to get a thing done right (a slow progression in this case)

A lot of reliance on lines to define my forms, but I may not have explored the concept of using masses of value to shape a thing in space. Overall quite sloppy, kind of silly, and a little bit fun.
